| How do assets become unclaimed property? For example, if John Smith opened an account with a bank or other business, and sometime later moved and forgot about that account. The bank or business is required by law to file a report and forward those assets to the State Treasurer. The Treasurer is responsible for safeguarding assets whose rightful owners cannot be located or assets that have been unclaimed for a specific period of time (generally three to seven years). Assets are held in the custody of the state indefinitely until the owner is located or their rightful heirs come forward. The state maintains a database of names for all accounts turned over to it. The owner or their heirs always have rights to the funds. There is no time limit to claim the money! In most cases its money from a forgotten paycheck, a lost inheritance or a closed bank account. | ||

| The most common types of unclaimed property are: | ||
| Checking / Savings Accounts | Stocks and Mutual Funds | Payroll Checks |
| Life Insurance Proceeds | Credit Balances | HUD/FHA Refunds |
| Gas and Mineral Royalties | Money Orders | Overpayments and Refunds |
| Dividends | Cashiers Checks | Customer Deposits |
Here's how you make money as a locator.
(Let's look at this hypothetical example) You start by simply typing names into
the State Unclaimed Property Database (links below) using a local whitepages phone
directory as your source. As you type in random names, you pull-up a Jerry Price at
1235 Hill St., Los Angeles, CA. with $8,200.00 from PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY. (Example script) ring, ring, ring, YOU JUST MADE
YOURSELF A COOL $820.00 !!! |
THE AGREEMENT FORM IS YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS !!!
Simplicity of this business To show you how easily you can get started, below is the COMPLETE DATABASE for all the Unclaimed Property State offices with searchable databases. Try it out. Just click on any link in the table below. Search for familiar names, family members or even companies. Here's a hint: One of the best sources for names is your local white pages, so grab your local phone book and try it out. You will be blown away at how easy this business really is. |
Unfortunately, some states don't disclose the exact dollar amount owed
to the individual. They only let you know it's either (Over $100) or (Under $100) which is
not much help to the locator. In this case it would be difficult to work those States
effectively. There is good news for a handful of States. If you see a $$$ next to the
State in the database below, that means that State discloses the exact dollar amount held. |
| STATE UNCLAIMED PROPERTY DATABASES (Links updated 7/25/08) |
